Researchers at VIB and KU Leuven have identified how the Alzheimer's drug lecanemab works: its Fc fragment activates brain immune cells called microglia to clear toxic amyloid plaques. The finding, published in Nature Neuroscience, could guide development of safer and more effective treatments that directly activate microglia without requiring antibodies.
