An interdisciplinary team of researchers analyzed residues from 58 prehistoric ceramic cooking pots dating between the 6th and 3rd millennium BCE to study the diets of Eastern European hunter-gatherer-fishers. The scientists found evidence that these ancient peoples foraged for plants including wild grasses, legumes, berries, and roots while also hunting fish and animals, often combining ingredients into region-specific recipes.
