Former footballer Joey Barton, 43, was remanded in custody and charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm following an alleged attack on Kevin Lynch, a 51-year-old headteacher, outside a Liverpool golf club on Sunday. Barton appeared at Liverpool magistrates court alongside Gary O'Grady, 50, who was released on bail; both men deny the charge and are scheduled to appear in court again on April 7.
