Following fan complaints about false advertising, Sony Santa Monica and Mega Cat Studios made the two-player roguelike challenge mode "The Pit of Agonies" accessible from the start of God of War: Sons of Sparta via an unlock code rather than requiring players to complete the main story first. The retro-inspired PS5 game, developed in partnership between the studios, features Kratos and his brother Deimos in their youth and can now be played solo or in local co-op without finishing the campaign.
